link How to link directly to specific text on a web page

BookmarkQ screnshot

I often find myself wanting to send someone a link to a specific place on a web page.  Whether it’s a page section that doesn’t have an HTML anchor link or a quote or passage of interest it can often be hard to find a way to copy, paste and send just the part that you want.

For a few years I’ve been using The Awesome Highlighter. You install a bookmarklet, select text on the page, click the bookmarklet, go to a new page to get the unique URL and share. It works pretty well but it’s a little bit clunky.

This week I read about BookmarkQ in Lifehacker.  BookmarkQ is also a bookmarklet but rather than leaving the page when you highlight the text and click the bookmarklet you stay on the page and are presented with a shortened URL (Awesome Highligher’s URLs aren’t that short) and some sharing options in a little overlay tool. So far I think this is more convenient.
